Budget Consultation 2018-2021

Title: Budget Consultation 2018-2021

Council section(s):

Consultation Period: 27 NOV 2017 to 07 JAN 2018 23:59pm.

All residents, businesses and third-sector organisations.

Why are we consulting?

In order to set a balanced budget, the Council must find and deliver £31 million of efficiency savings over the next three years (2018-2021). This is a result of economic and demographic pressures, such as reduced grant funding from Welsh Government and increased demand for local services.

In making difficult decisions about its services, the Council would like to hear your views on its proposals. In total, 20 proposals are listed for comment, and will be considered alongside other 'managerial' options such as procurement arrangements, staffing structures and internal/back office functions.

A full public consultation on the budget proposals will take place from 27th November 2017 until Sunday 7th January 2018.
By February 2018, the Council’s Executive Board needs to form a draft budget to present to full council.

How to get involved

During the public consultation period, the Council will be undertaking an extensive consultation exercise, inviting local residents, businesses, community or voluntary organisations to take part.

The Council will be seeking the views of a wide range of representative groups such as the Citizens’ Panel, the 50 Plus Forum, voluntary and community associations, Town and Community Councils, local businesses, the Carmarthenshire Disability Coalition and many others.

You can let us know what you think by completing our online budget survey, which asks for your opinion on all 'policy' efficiency saving proposals. The survey also asks for your views on possible new ways of working. Hard copies of the survey are available on request. Alternatively, you may complete the survey at your local customer service centres;

Next steps

All views submitted during the consultation period will be analysed as part of a budget consultation report on the matter. This report will be considered by councillors when setting the 2018/21 council budget.

A copy of the budget consultation report will be available to view on the Council's website in February 2018. Hard copies will also be made available on request.
